Rivals clash in the league after their midweek cup successes

EVO-STIK DIVISION ONE S&W

Clevedon Town boss Mickey Bell has hailed his 'brilliant' players after they overcame the odds to beat Banbury in the Red Insure League Cup final on Tuesday night.

The Seasiders went into the second leg as underdogs after a goalless draw at the Hand Stadium, but an early goal from Bristol City loanee Henry Muggeridge and a late strike from Chas Hemmings secured a 2-1 win.

Bell said: "The boys have been brilliant all the way through the competition.

"We had some hard games away from home all the way through, in which not many people would have fancied us.

"To win the cup is fantastic for our supporters and is also a great reward for all the hardworking people behind the scenes at the club.

"The team spirit and togetherness around the place is our real strength – it has been a real team effort this season."

Clevedon play their penultimate game of the campaign at Bishop's Cleeve today.

Bell's Cleeve counterpart Alex Sykes, meanwhile, will not allow his players to bask in the glory of Tuesday's County Cup semi-final success over Cheltenham Town.

Sykes said: "We can take a great heart from that performance and move into the final two league games of the season full of confidence.

"We have make sure that we follow it up with a performance against Clevedon and finish the season well.

"Victory will give us a record points haul in this league, so that's certainly going to be our motivation for the game."

Mangotsfield United could be in a position to unveil their new manager next week.

Paulton Rovers complete their fixtures with a trip to Cinderford.

Mark Harrington's side have slipped out of play-off contention, but have gained draws against promotion-chasing duo Hungerford and Sholing in the last week.

Paulton assistant manager Nick Bunyard said: "We were disappointed to fall away from the play-offs near the end of the campaign, but we feel that we've had a decent season."

Marcus Mapstone and Scott Brice return for Paulton.

The Foresters, meanwhile, will look to give their fans something to cheer, having been victorious in just six of their 19 previous home games this term, a record that would place them near to relegation, but for a superb away tally.
